The 'Migration' wall-hanging is inspired by the migration of salmon through the rivers of the Pacific West Coast in Canada. Using a soft, recycled cotton cord, the material was integrated into woven backing by hand-manipulating the cord using traditional macrame techniques while still on the loom. The fluidity of the movement, repeating pattern and rich texture creates a strong visual focal point.
Each wall-hanging design in our West Coast Collection features a unique blend of lustrous cotton and kilcarra tweed which are chosen to add depth of colour and texture. Our distinctive style also features recycled cotton or wool roving, ensuring a rich combination of fibres and colours. When combined, these natural materials create soft, lightweight and textiles that will soften any interior.
This unique collection of wall-hangings features circular rings or macrame techniques that are inlayed while still on the loom. This complex process of integrating the design between rows of handwoven yarn creates a technical challenge that results in a soft and textured artwork. Choosing designs that cannot be mill-woven reflects our commitment to craftsmanship, time-honoured weaving traditions and cultivating an increasingly sustainable practice.
